Full House

A Look Back at the Iconic Sitcom

Full House is a beloved series that aired for many seasons while its young cast--Candace Cameron, Jodie Sweetin, Mary Kate Olsen, and Ashley Olsen--grew up.

Danny Tanner (Bob Saget) is a recent widower with three little girls: DJ (Candace Cameron) Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and baby Michelle (Mary Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen). His best friend Joey (Dave Coulier) and brother-in-law Jessie (John Stamos) move in to help him take care of his girls until he gets on his feet. They have so much fun that they never leave! However, eventually Jessie does get married to his many-seasons-long girlfriend Rebecca (Lori Loughlin), but they only move as far away as the attic, even when they have their own kids: twin boys.

Slow, Solid Success

Full House was the little sitcom that could when it premiered on ABC. Despite less-than-stellar reviews, its audience steadily grew. When it was added to the TGIF Friday night line-up, a hit was born. Kids tuned in religiously alongside their parents, and the showed provided fun and funny, wholesome entertainment. You didn't see the kids behaving disrespectfully. Although the later seasons would deal with some deep issues like the child abuse of a friend of Stephanie's, almost every episode ended with a very special moment that usually led to a hug and everything being alright.

Full House Philosophy

Although the basic plot is a bit sad--the girls have lost their mother--the atmosphere of the sitcom is always one of fun and joy. Even in episodes where the girls miss their mother, like the one where Stephanie has to go to a mother-daughter slumber party without her mother, the show never digs too deeply into sadness. There is always a silver lining, and the girls look at the unique blessings that they do have as opposed to what they have lost.

The Olsen Twins

Mary Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen remained media sweethearts long after Full House last aired. Still appearing regularly in gossip columns, despite not being active actors, the twins were enormously wealthy and successful before hitting their teen years. With the help of an ambitious manager and strong work ethic and talent, the twins rode their Full House fame into other avenues, like music videos, movies, other television shows, and video releases.

Full House Reunion

There have been rumors of a Full House reunion for years, but nothing solid has been formed.

Where Are They Now?

Candace Cameron is a devoted Christian. She has returned to acting, and she was recently featured on a magazine cover with her beautiful family. She is now a mom to 3. Candace's daughter was the flower girl in Jodie Sweetin's first wedding.

Jodie Sweetin has an infant daughter, and she is in the process of writing a book about her experiences on and after Full House. She has been twice divorced, and she has spoke openly about her former addictions. Showing strength and fortitude, Jodie hopes to be in show business once again.

John Stamos has pursued acting beyond Full House, giving a great turn in the stunning A Raisin in the Sun television film. He has played many parts on Broadway, including appearing as the lead in Caberet.

Bob Saget continues performing stand-up, as he did prior and during the run on the sitcom. He is also known for his hosting gig of America's Funniest Home Videos. He came under fire for inappropriate jokes about the Olsen twins, but he has loudly proclaimed nothing but love and respect for his youngest television daughters, going so far as to make a cameo appearance in their feature film, New York Minute.

Dave Coulier has continued his career path in comedy as well. He admitted that Alanis Morissette's tune "You Oughtta Know" was penned about him, a trivia fact that came out only years after the song was released. His latest project was "Bob and Doug."
