Wish you could get a fresh start? Now you can... and all you need is an avatar.
Who would have thunk it? As a freelance writer, I've come in contact with a whole host of cool things that I never would have seen otherwise. It is, I must admit, one of the best perks of the job and this is a good example. While I'm out bidding on projects, I see a gig for something called "Second Life". Hmmm.. sounds interesting. So off I go to find out just what it is I might be bidding on and I have to say, this just might be the coolest thing yet. For those who haven't heard of Second Life, its a virtual world, complete with clubs, jobs, housing and even its very own economy. Money comes in the form of Linden Dollars and at this writing, the exchange rate is about $250L to $1US. What's even cooler is that this exchange works both ways, meaning you can earn money in Second Life and convert it back to US dollars at any time. How do you earn money? Well, you could start by getting a job and luckily, there's plenty to be had. From casino hosts to exotic dancers to writers, artists and DJ's, there's a ton of different ways to build some cash in your virtual life. If you don't want to work for someone else, try starting your own business - get creative - the only limitation is your own imagination. You can create new avatar skins and put them up for sale. Buy land and then piece it out to new residents. See where this is going? The opportunities are endless. But perhaps the coolest thing about Second Life is that you can really be whoever you want to be. Change your clothes, change your form, change your hair and face. Add tattoos, piercings or hell, you can even give yourself fur. Because in this virtual world, class and race just really don't come into play. Want to check it out? Visit Second Life and drop me a line if you do. :)
